If you are planning on having your own bonsai garden, then you really need to get familiar with the tools and equipment needed for the smooth cultivation and handling of the bonsai plant.
First of all, you need the bonsai pots. The beauty of your bonsai tree can be greatly determined by the kind of pot you choose to start it with. I want to assure you that if you go for the wrong size of pot of your bonsai plant, you are going to reduce its beauty. Bonsai pots come in different sizes, shapes and colors and absolute care needs be taken when looking for the right pot for your plant.
A guide to selecting the right pot is to get one that is 2/3 wider than the height of the tree, that is, if the tree happens to be taller instead of being wider. If the height of the tree branches is not up to the treeís branch spread, the pot length should be a bit more than 2/3 in width. The pot must also have a drainage hole, where the water can pass out. Water must never be allowed to retain in the pot.
To handle bonsai seeds properly, you need to leave them in water to determine which seeds are viable to grow your plants and the ones that arenít. As you place the seeds in water, get rid of those floating on the water surface and plant those that have settled under. This way, you will get the right seeds. In planting, the soil should be mixed and the seeds placed in the lowest part of the pot, then the layer of soil above the seed should be a mixture of gravel and putting soil and should be about 1 inch below the potís rim. The final layer should then contain akadama and potting compost. The seed can then be watered with fine spray nozzle.
These are just, should I say, the beginning tips, and you can start with them; they do not however guarantee the success of the garden – what does that is the hard work and perseverance that follows. I will be first to tell you that even despite your best efforts, you first batch of miniature or miniaturized tree may not be all that.
Ok, donít panic. I understand that you have put a lot of time and effort into it, but you simply have to keep it up and make corrections to the mistakes you made the first time around. Before you know it, you could have trees that rival the very best in the world!
